Huawei intends to launch a refreshed version of its popular smartwatch. The new Huawei Watch GT 2 will have a larger battery and will be equipped with a microphone.
The new Chinese watch, so far known as Huawei Watch GT 2, is developed under the code name “Latona” and bears the model number LTN-B19. It will be the successor to the popular Huawei Watch GT smartwatch. The upgrade is rather a subtle one, but some interesting features will be added. Huawei will use its own operating system, so the new product should not be affected by U.S. sanctions. Therefore, this may be the first watch with HarmonyOS on board.
The new Huawei smartwatch will have a more compact and thinner design. The frame around the display is smaller than in its predecessor, but the display might be slightly larger. The device will be powered by a 445 mAh battery that should extend the working time of the watch. On board you will find a GPS module, heart rate monitor, as well as a microphone and a speaker. This suggests that Huawei Watch GT 2 will be suitable for voice calls. The watch can be connected to a smartphone using Bluetooth. It is not clear yet whether the device will offer LTE connectivity.
As with the previous model, two editions are available. As presented on the leaked renders, the Sport model will have a rubber band and black color, whereas the Watch GT 2 Classic black & silver colors with a brown leather strap.
The presentation of the Huawei Watch GT 2 should take place within the next few weeks, perhaps together with the Mate 30 series phones or at the IFA 2019, which starts in Berlin on 6 September.
